New gate into wood

Sawed up the wood. Screw it together another day.

It's about one year a nice my last post. Interesting to read last year's posts at about this time of year. The weather is very similar. No rain for the last three weeks and none in the forecast. Pretty much a constant wind from the North East making it chilly however it's nice in the sun and out of the wind.

Nice to see plenty of bee activity on the Victoria plums this morning. Very warm weather. Around 23c and still no rain. Turnip seedling through already. Watered the veg patch. No rain due for four days according to the BBC weather.

Today I put onion sets in. Both white and red. Cold day.

Pentland Javelin

The earlys, Pentland Javelin went in today. That's all the potatoes planted. The leaf buds on the apple and plum trees are just starting to open.

Planted a row of Cara maincrop today. And had a plink with the s400f . Primroses are out in force and I saw three woodpecker and a very nice nuthatch.

Today we sowed parsnip, beetroot, carrots and turnips. Also got a row if Desiree potatoes in.

In November 2018 I bought a new Air Arms S400f classic in .177 from Ron Daley. It's a very nice rifle.  I've spent a lot of time since then oiling the stock. It's doesn't seem to have brought the grain out in the photos as much as possible be might expect but the stock has a much nicer finish to it. Latest pic at the top and oldest pic at the bottom.

Shed

We got a shed for the field in autumn 2018. Melissa has plans for it. 

Last August 2018 we bought six pullets from a place near York. They were £12.50 each.

Today I've seen three Roe deer, a barn owl, a hedgehog and a very old rat

Wood gas burner camping stove.

Made from one baked beans tin and one SMA baby milk tin. Doesn't take much wood as it works by returning the gases given off as the wood burns. I've since painted it black with stove paint and made a little pan stand out of a tuna can. Also made a leather pouch for it from a bit I had in the garage from Melissa's old sofa we had in Hebden Bridge. 😁

Red Squirrels are go!

Having not seen any Reds for most of the summer I was starting to wonder if we were scaring them off but this last week they have become easier to spot as the leaves come off the trees and they are bolder as they concentrate on feeding on all those beech nuts, pine cones and Hawthorn berries.

Melissa wanted to go to Hawes Community bonfire on November the 5th so we had our own bonfire at the field the night before on Mischief night instead. The weather was perfect and the fireworks spot on with no loud bangs which pleased Morris though disappointed Edwin.

Two Apple trees

...and the other apple tree we got from Braithwaites was planted the following day.

Picked a spot and planted the first of the two apple trees we bought at the weekend. This one is "Scrumptious" variety. We'll have to wait and see....
