Woodcock

Pretty sure it was one of these that I startled last night from the woodland. Other recent sightings include a nice Nuthatch and the first Red Squirrel of the year. A big male it was.

Coppicing Elm

At the three cornered wood I've been felling Elms as they start to become Dutch Elm affected. They grow back up very well even in the first year with up to 6' of growth. Important to protect the new growth by piling brash over the stumps to keep rabbits and deer away as much as possible. Hopefully the coppiced Elm will be worth harvesting in ten to fifteen years time.
